Rempt van der Donk started the office in 1996, after having worked for offices as De Jong en van Olphen, De Architectengroep, Bakker Boots van Haaren van der Donk and Inbo. He completed his studies at the Academy of Architecture in Amsterdam cum laude. Since 1996 we have been working, as an independent company, in collaboration with the architectural firm BroekBakema, in which also physically houses our office. We are housed in the Van Nelle Design Factory in Rotterdam.

The small office with enthusiastic employees works enthusiastically on often large and complex architectural and urban planning assignments. The more complicated the task, the greater our challenge. The client and the user are always central to the combination of architecture and its urban or landscape context. We often look for a design with simple concepts that matches and is appropriate in the immediate environment of the assignment, without losing sight of our own identity. The basic principle is to generate an optimal effect with as few resources as possible. The assignments of our office range from large-scale urban planning assignments to delicate interior assignments. It is also our ambition to make and supervise designs within the budgets set by the client and tested by us. Energy efficiency and circular construction are always important in our designs. The concepts with their own identity always reflect the wishes of the client or of the users. Simplicity is our credo.

In addition to architecture and urban planning, our office is active in the industrial design of products. After all, design is in our blood. The complexity of designing products and complex structures are not very different from each other. The design philosophy less=more can also be applied in the design of products. We look for simple solutions for complex tasks. Solutions that are gentle on the eye, timeless and with a touch of romance. But at the same time be functional and avant-garde and cast a new image on a product.
